T-SPOT can be used for the diagnosis of diseases simply by detecting the
presence of an effector T cell response. This is particular useful in latent or
initially subclinical diseases where there is no recoverable pathogen or reliable antibody response; and thus where conventional techniques fail. TB Ag MPT64 - M. TUBERCULOSIS COLONY IDENTIFICATION TEST

Biochemical, immunological and molecular biological characterization of Mycobacterium tuberculosis has led to the identification of several antigens which can discriminate between the M. tuberculosis complex and mycobacteria other than M. tuberculosis (MOTT bacilli).

M. tuberculosis has been known to secrete more than 33 different proteins. One of the predominant proteins, MPT64, is only found in the culture fluid of strains of the M. tuberculosis complex.

The SD TB Ag MPT64 is a rapid immunochromatographic identification test for the M. tuberculosis complex.
