
Kat Medical was founded in 1996 by Keith Dodkins, who has over 30 years experience in the medical laboratory diagnostic market. His ability to grow market share for his employers was proven at Coulter Electronics and Ilex (Instrumentation Laboratory). At Coulter he gained 100% market shares in many of Southern Africa’s countries, as well as increasing the Market in South Africa from 50% to 75%. With IL he took the average annual sales from only 10% of Blood gas orders to over 90% until his departure to start Kat Medical.

All sales staff are degree Medical Technologists and our technical support staff are also Biotechnology engineers. This also follows through to our accounting and administrative staff.
Continual staff training enhances our ability to represent our suppliers and best advice our customers in our products use. Internal training and discussion keeps the whole team up to date and customers informed of developments as well as in product optimisation. An emphasis on service support ensures that our installed base of instrumentation is always working and can be relied upon by the user. This inturn ensures the good reputation of the manufacturing brand.
There is a growing need to participate in all aspects of the diagnostic market, right from the traditional laboratory tests through to point of care testing. Our understanding of the laboratory market enables us to market point of care testing with more technical understanding than many of the competition. Our current product range is already a mix of traditional laboratory testing as well as Point of care, growth of our point of care product range will make our marketing efforts in this area more effective and productive for all involved.
Kat Medical is also involved with the education of a number of students. This is from school through to university. We see this as a social responsibility within a country with our history. A corporate involvement in other aspects of social support is also in place. Many previously disadvantaged population groups where totally excluded from sports like swimming and life saving. We support a community involvement program who focus on these two areas.
